A very special photo book

On a peaceful and calm day in the summer of 2021, I was on vacation in Brazil, at my parents’ house. I find myself rummaging through old books, records, photographs, documents, and other things in the library. A comforting, nostalgic feeling invades me, reminding me of the many books and photographs that I have visited many times during my childhood. For some reason, most likely due to the advent of technology, we stopped consulting those books, documents, and photographs. The state of conservation of the objects, mainly the photographic positives, was starting to show strong signs of time. Concerned about the degraded state of the books and photographic slides, I decided to talk to my father about the importance of preserving the historical photographic collection. There you can find thousands of photographs of trips, family gatherings, places, people, etc. organized in carousels. My father agrees that we should take care of it, but he doesn’t want to take care of these things anymore, and he offers me the position of guardian of the library. That said, at the end of the holidays, I bring all the positives — over 3500 — back to my home in Norway. Here I have a small photographic laboratory, where I begin the restoration and digitization work. There were 11 months of daily work, the result of discipline, where I cleaned, restored, and scanned positive by positive. This book is a brief clipping of this restored and digitized documentary material. Witer Brasil, the photographer, is my father and my first and great master in the world of light. I hope you like it and feel inspired. Click on the photo to see the entire book.

New book coming soon.

This photographic collection are arranged chronologically from themes such as life, work, politics, culture and family. This is Rodrigo’s first editorial work. The book does not focus on a specific theme, but on a varied and current compilation. A kind of record of a part of his work.
